What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy, aka colonic, high colonic, colon irrigation,  is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine, without the use of drugs.  Filtered and temperature regulated water is precisely delivered throughout the large intestine gently expanding the folds of the colon walls to release entrapped fecal matter.

 Why should I be concerned about my colon?

The colon has been referred to as the sewer system of the body.  It is the place where we store the waste material that most of us would rather not think about.  A healthy digestive tract helps support a healthy immune system.

The colon is responsible for helping to keep the body in balance.  One of it's first functions is to re-absorb the liquid from the undigested foodstuff, which has passed through the small intestine.  This liquid is re-absorbed and sent directly to the liver to be detoxified and then used in the body.  If the undigested foods remain in the colon longer than normal it will start decomposing inside the colon creating toxins, which will also be re-absorbed.  This can happen and result in constipation. It is believed that sometimes the walls of the colon can become coated with fecal matter and the re-absorption of the liquid is slow resulting in more of a diarrhea type of elimination. 

The colon is also responsible for the production of certain B vitamins and vitamin K.

And of course the one function we all know of is the formation of fecal material and elimination from the body.

By introducing filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis (rhythmic contraction of the colon to naturally remove waste). This process is repeated several times during a session.

 How many sessions are required?

The number of sessions required will depend on the individual; however, three consecutive sessions are suggested which are approximately one hour each.  You are never left alone while on the machine.

Why not an enema? 

Enemas cannot reach the entire colon.  They may travel as far as the top of the descending part of the colon but rarely further.  They also create cramping and discomfort.  With a colonic, when you feel a cramp coming on, you just let the body's peristaltic action take over and everything (gas and/or fecal matter) travels through the tube to the plumbing system.  When the cramp is gone, more water can be introduced immediately, without delay or reinsertions.  No odor, no mess. 

 What kind of equipment is used?

We only use new, sterile pre-packaged equipment for your safety and comfort.  A uniquely designed speculum is used to introduce the cleansing water into the colon in a controlled manner.  The water is filtered as well as temperature and pressure controlled.
